University of Salford are premier sponsors at AMA 2016

The University of Salford will be the premier sponsors at the 2016 Asian Media Awards.

The AMA’s aim to celebrate excellence in the media with categories in journalism, online, radio, television and marketing.

The awards are now in their fourth year and are held in partnership with some of the world’s leading media organisations.

Professor Allan Walker, Dean of the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford, said: “We are absolutely delighted to continue our long-standing support of the Asian Media Awards as premier sponsor for another year.

“The awards highlight just how many talented people are working in the media from Britain’s Asian communities and we want that number to grow.

“We also want to continue to be at the heart of helping ensure that the media fully represents the diversity, talent and creativity of the UK population in the 21st century.

“Our relationship has already seen the School of Arts and Media and the Asian Media Awards work closely together to spread this message to University students, schools and colleges through a series of events, projects and workshops.

“We have also worked with some of the Asian community’s leading media experts to inspire the next generation of stars across the sector, from journalists, to film-makers, actors and performers.

“The School has an international outlook but also works close to home with local communities. We want to ensure that students from all backgrounds are equipped with the academic ability and skills to thrive in the workplace.

“That’s why our sponsorship of the Asian Media Awards is such a natural fit. As a School and University, we have a proud history of widening participation in Higher Education but we want to take this forward further.

“The entries for the awards we sponsor for Outstanding Young Journalist and Best TV Show also confirm what staff on media programmes at the University of Salford already know: there is an exciting and emerging generation of Asian talent in the evolving digital world.”

Umbreen Ali, Media Manager with the Asian Media Awards said, “There is a synergy between the aims of the awards and how the university is looking to inspire the next generation.

“We are delighted once again to be working with the University and we look forward to honouring young and upcoming talent at the 2016 ceremony.”
