Seema Jaswal Wins First Sports Journalist of the Year Award

Television and radio presenter Seema Jaswal was named the USI Money sponsored Sports Journalist of the Year.

The finalists were announced by football legend Alan Shearer in a special recording from the Match of the Day studio.

The Asian Media Awards ceremony took place at the Manchester Hilton Deansgate (Thursday October 25) attracting journalists, broadcasters and media professionals from across the country.

The evening also saw BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty, East is East and Ackley Bridge creator Ayub Khan Din and Sky News Political Editor, Faisal Islam honoured.

Seema was presented the award by Manchester musician Aziz Ibrahim.

Seema said, “As I said on stage today, for us to sit back as a community and embrace all the achievements from across the industry has been just incredible. It is important for us to celebrate just how successful the Asian community are and also good for the generation coming through.

“I saw a lot of faces in that audience that inspired me growing up and I think it is important to keep that coming through.”

Seema currently hosts FanZone and Kick Off for Premier League Productions.

In April she hosted BBC1’s Football Focus and also presented coverage of the UEFA European Under 17 Championship Finals for ITV4 throughout May.

From June to July, Seema was part of ITV’s presenting team at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Throughout 2018, Seema also reported from the BDO Lakeside Darts World Professional Championships for Channel 4, the Snooker World Championships for BBC2 and she regularly presents Motor Sport challenges for Channel 4 and co-presented Gfinity Elite Series 3 for FIFA 18.


Winners and recipients of AMA special awards were announced at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 25 October.

Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia and Anita Rani.
