The Asian Today pick-up Publication of the Year honour

Birmingham based The Asian Today was named Publication of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.

The Asian Media Awards, sponsored by the University of Salford honours journalists, broadcasters, presenters, bloggers and marketing professionals and took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate (Wednesday 25 October).

Ifraz Ahmed from the The Asian Today was presented the award alongside editor Anita Chumber.

Irfaz said, “It’s an honour to win the award.

“It’s great to recognise what the Asian media does, especially with local communities and addressing local stories and making sure they are heard.”

Based in the Midlands The Asian Today has continued to maintain a high level of local journalism by featuring a range of stories challenging perceptions of the Asian community.

The newspaper was launched in 2002 offering a platform for the community to voice their views and concerns. A free copy is released on a fortnightly basis and focuses mainly on current events and encouraging community interaction and dialogue as well as provoking debate and discussion.

The Asian Today were the recipients of the 2013 Asian Media Award for ‘Best Local Newspaper.’

Last year, The Asian Today launched The Midlands Asian Wedding Awards and has been keen to support Midland based businesses and raise social issues.

The University of Salford are premier sponsors and partners to the event include ITV, MediaCom, M.E.N, Press Association Training & Primesight.

The official Charity Partners for 2017 are Sightsavers.

The event is supported by Manchester Metropolitan University, Routes Into Languages, AMT Lawyers, Hilton Manchester Deansgate, Tauheedul College for Teaching and Leadership, Supreme Dream Events, Payal and Cleartwo.
