Ambika Mod was named Best Newcomer at the 10th Asian Media Awards.
Ambika’s debut role saw her portray the trainee doctor Shruti Acharya in the hit BBC One series ‘This is Going to Hurt’, starring opposite Ben Whishaw.
The series was based on Adam Kay’s best-selling book of the same name and tackled a range of issues including racism, abusive relationships and the mental health crises within the NHS. Issues that were all the more relevant during and after the Covid pandemic which put extra strains on workers at all levels within the organisation.
‘Shruti’s story’ turned out to be one of the most tragic and heart breaking TV moments the year and Ambika’s portrayal of a beleaguered junior doctor was commended by critics and audiences alike.
In other work, Ambika will soon be seen in Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed comedy ‘I Hate Suzie’, created by Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper, and produced by Bad Wolf for Sky.
She is currently filming as the lead role of ‘Emma’ in Netflix’s highly anticipated drama series, ‘One Day’, based on David Nicholls’ novel of the same name.
The series charts the personal encounters between the pair that begin on their university graduation day on July15, 1988.
It is produced by Drama Republic and adapted by screenwriter Nicole Taylor.
Ambika was recently announced as a Screen Daily ‘International Star of Tomorrow’ 2022.

The 2022 AMA’s celebrated the achievements of journalists, broadcasters and leading creative industry professionals in Manchester.
The ceremony hosted by Sky Sports News presenter Bela Shah also saw special awards for LBC News host Lisa Aziz, BBC 5Live broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake and acclaimed TV and stage actor Kulvinder Ghir.
The awards honoured journalism, online, radio, TV, creative media, stage, theatre and live events in 23 categories and was back at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate where the first awards took place in 2013.
The University of Salford are the Premier Partners for the awards which aim to shine a light on the accomplishments of media professionals from across the UK.
The 2022 Asian Media Awards winners of all categories and special awards were revealed at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 28.
Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia, Anita Rani, Shobna Gulati, Faisal Islam & Adil Ray.
