Yasmeen Khan picked-up the Radio Presenter of the Year Award at this year’s Asian Media Awards.
The AMA’s recognise excellence in the media with categories in journalism, online, radio, television and marketing. The awards are sponsored by the University of Salford and took place the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
The award was presented to Yasmeen by Raj Somaiya of Payal Events.
Yasmeen said, “I’m really chuffed…I can’t find a more formal way than putting it than that!
“Radio is a real privilege and I am really pleased that this year I am with a new station as well and they get some recognition from it.”
Yasmeen presents on three different radio stations including talkRADIO, BBC Three Counties Radio and BBC Radio London.
Her weekly talkRADIO show is a drivetime programme that covers the day’s news but also aims to ease listeners into the weekend.
The Yasmeen Khan show is a weekly two-hour live show on BBC Three Counties (Beds/Herts/Bucks) focused on the local Asian community.
Her work for BBC Radio London on the weekend late-night phone-in (10pm-2am) included covering breaking news of the Paris attacks.
Her work across the three stations has seen her create original features and produce compelling journalism to a high standard. Over the past year she has also written and performed original short stories and monologues for both BBC Three Counties and talkRADIO.
The Radio Presenter of the Year category was sponsored by Payal.
