Sunrise Yorkshire was named Regional Radio Station of the Year at the 2016 Asian Media Awards.
The AMA’s recognise excellence in the media with categories in journalism, online, radio, television and marketing. The awards are sponsored by the University of Salford and took place the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
Raj Parmar said, “We are really humbled and overwhelmed. A big thank you going out to all the staff and the listeners who have supported us for 28 years.
“The credit goes to my mum (Usha) chief Executive of Sunrise Radio Yorkshire who has tirelessly worked for 28 years to take Sunrise Yorkshire in the direction it has gone.”
The award was presented by Aziz Rashid Head of BBC North West and Emmerdale actor Bhaskar Patel.
Sunrise Yorkshire launched in December 1989 and in the past year has seen it launch in the North West and Scotland.
The station continues to serve the regions ethnic minority communities in the heart of Yorkshire and the wider regions.
The mix of music, information and news in both English and Hindi has won the station a large and loyal following.
Their popular presenters regularly appear at most of the North’s leading melas and together with community groups they organise a range of high profile outdoor and indoor events.
The University of Salford are premier sponsors to the 2016 events and partners include ITV, MediaCom, Press Association Training and the Manchester Evening News.
The official charity partners for 2016 are The Asian Circle and Oxfam.
