Star Plus made it a hat-trick as they won the Best TV Channel of the Year for the third year at the Asian Media Awards.
The third AMA ceremony took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate where stars from TV and radio joined some of the UK’s leading journalists, broadcasters and writers.
The TV Channel of the Year award was presented by Nazma Kabir, Director of Programmes at Plan UK.
STAR TV is an entertainment channel and hails as the largest Asian Channel in the UK with a weekly reach of over 1 million. Star TV’s programming consists predominantly of family dramas, telefilms and celebrity chat shows.
The majority of the channel’s content is subtitled in English.
Sarika Shankarnarayan from Star TV said, “It’s an absolute pleasure and honour to be here. A massive thank you to the judging panel.
“A massive thank you to our viewers without whom we wouldn’t officially be the UK’s number one Asian channel.
“I had to throw that in! I’m very proud of being a part of Star!
“Last but not least, a massive thank you to all members of staff that work tirelessly behind the scenes to put together the amazing content that our viewers enjoy.”
Nazma Kabir, Director of Programmes at Plan UK said, “We are very pleased to be the charity partner for this wonderful and very important event.
“Working with the media including many of the nominees here is a vital way to raise awareness of the work that we do around the world, such as Plan’s work with adolescent girls.
“We ensure that girl’s receive a good quality education, free from violence and are empowered to make their own decisions.
“With the ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign we are focusing on adolescent girls and the issue of violence in and around schools.
“I would encourage you to look at the campaign and also get involved.”
The Asian Media Awards took place on Thursday October 29 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.
The University of Salford were premier sponsors and partners to the event included ITV, MediaCom & Press Association Training.
