Soho Theatre India campaign wins 2024 Creative Media award

A campaign to showcase comedy talent both in the UK and in India clinched the Creative Media honour at the Asian Media Award.

London’s legendary Soho Theatre has been working with artists of South Asian heritage from across the world.

Journalists and broadcasters joined actors and presenters at the 12th ceremony, which celebrates achievements in a range of categories in TV, radio, stage, online and creative media.

The ceremony is supported by the University of Salford and took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 25.

The Opus Broadband Creative Media Award was presented by Head of business sales, Antony Jarvis and Social Media and PR Manager, Charlotte Core.

Executive Director Mark Godfrey said: ‘We’re thrilled and fortunate to be able to play a part in connecting UK audiences to incredible South Asian artists from across the world. To receive an Asian Media Award, recognising the work of those artists and Soho Theatre’s team is a real honour.’

Accepting the award on the night were Soho Theatre trustee Farzana Baduel and team members Farah Ahmad (Brand & Creative Communications Manager), Pooja Sivaraman (Creative Associate) and Bhavita Bhatt (Fundraising & Partnerships Director).

The Soho Theatre India initiative sees the next generation of talented comedians take to the stage at a range of packed-out venues. In recent years there has been an explosion of Indian talent, creating an audience in India hungry to discover ‘the next big thing’.

The theatre has also travelled to schools and arts organisations in Indian cities where it aims to champion artists with roots in South Asia.

As part of the campaign the theatre has helped to showcase upcoming comedians from India at major UK festivals and venues, including the Edinburgh Fringe.
