Sanjeev Bhaskar’s role as DI Sunny Khan was named Best TV Character at the 2018 Asian Media Awards.
The Asian Media Awards ceremony took place at the Manchester Hilton Deansgate (Thursday October 25) attracting journalists, broadcasters and media professionals from across the country.
Sanjeev Bhaskar was honoured for his role as DI Sunny Khan in the hit ITV drama ‘Unforgotten’.
In a video message to guests he said, “Thank You Asian Media Awards for this great honour. And the honour made greater by the fact that Nitin, Bhavna and Guz played their characters note perfectly and would have been worthy winners for this accolade as well.”
Bhaskar, who plays DI Sunny Khan, is a London-based detective who unravels historic cases of disappearance and murder.
Now commissioned for a fourth series, the drama, which has won critical acclaim, focuses on a different cold case and also highlights the emotional impact the investigation has on those involved.
Despite the tough subject matters addressed, Bhaskar said having a sense of humour enables him to leave sometimes harrowing emotions on set.
Winners and recipients of AMA special awards were announced at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 25 October.
Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia and Anita Rani.
