Adam Hussain won the Best TV Character award for his role as Aadi Alahan in Coronation Street at the 2023 Asian Media Awards.
Journalists, broadcasters and creative professionals from across the UK were honoured at this year’s Asian Media Awards.
The stars of radio, TV and broadcasting gathered at the 11th AMA ceremony at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday (27 October).
The awards, which are supported by the University of Salford, celebrated winners in a range of categories in journalism, stage, online and creative media and were hosted by Magic FM’s Neev Spencer.
Those honoured on the night included broadcaster Tina Daheley, LBC presenter Sangita Myska and Mihir Bose who received the Outstanding Contribution to Media Award.
This year Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar were recognised with the Sophiya Haque Services to Television, Film & Theatre Award.

Adam said: “I am really honoured. This is the first award I have ever won so it is quite an experience and definitely a memory.”
Speaking of the storylines where he had been a part of, he added: “To be part of such a storyline is very important because it shine a light on what people are suffering right now. There are a lot of spikings.”
He had this message for fans: “Stay tuned. Aadi and Courtney’s relationship is in for a whirlwind!”
In the past year the character has endeared himself to millions of viewers as a funny, sensitive and likeable character who continues to veer away from stereotypes as an original yet relatable teenager.
He embarked in a relationship with Kelly Neelan and later threw himself in front of a bullet for Kelly in a thrilling showdown.
He has taken part in an extra-marital affair with an older woman as he grapples with being perceived as just another kid.
Aadi has also played a crucial role in the saga of Amy Barlow’s rape. This storyline around sexual consent was developed in conjunction with the Schools Consent Project, a charity.
This year’s Asian Media Awards winners were announced at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 27.
Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia, Anita Rani, Shobna Gulati, Faisal Islam, Adil Ray & Lisa Aziz.
