BBC Radio London’s Asad Ahmad wins Asian Media Award  

Asad Ahmad was named Radio Presenter of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.

Journalists and broadcasters joined actors and presenters at the 12th ceremony, which celebrates achievements in a range of categories in TV, radio, stage, online and creative media.

The ceremony is supported by the University of Salford and took place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 25.

During a broadcasting career spanning nearly 30 years, Asad has worked on a range of shows and major stories for the BBC.

He presently hosts his own show on BBC London. The show is a mix of talk, interviews and music during which he has aimed to showcase and celebrate Asian culture, music and food to Londoners.

Asad’s experience of interviewing and covering a wide range of the biggest stories goes back decades.

He has won a Royal Television Society award and his TV work has won him a BAFTA nomination. During the qualifying period for these awards, Asad secured an exclusive on the Muslim boycott of the Eid Reception at 10 Downing Street and hosted engaging interviews with Rose Jan, who spoke of the domestic violence she suffered and Pia Sinha, director of the Prison Reform Trust.

Asad is an Ambassador for HRH Prince of Wales’s charity, Mosaic, an Ambassador for the Prince’s British Asian Trust, an alumnus of the United States International Visitor Leadership Programme and a member of Mensa.
