The 2024 Asian Media Awards finalists have been announced at the headquarters of EssenceMediacom in London.

The awards are now in their 12th year and celebrate achievements in a range of categories in journalism, TV, radio, stage, online and creative media.

The ceremony is supported by the University of Salford and will return to Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Friday October 25.

The awards feature work from national and regional media organisations as well as smaller independent production teams and freelance media professionals.

Guests were welcomed by Board Director at EssenceMediacom, Sanjay Shabi.

Speakers on the night included artist and producer Dawinder Bansal and Associate Dean Academic (Student Experience), School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology at the University of Salford, Paul Broster.

An Asian Media Awards spokesperson said: “Over the past eleven years the awards have helped to shine a light on a range of issues through in-depth investigation, reports, programming and live productions.

“This year is no different and comes at a time when the importance of diversity within newsrooms and storylines is more important than ever.

“We are delighted to be celebrating this work, much of which has been produced and aired against growing individual and organisational challenges.”

Paul Broster said: “We are tremendously proud to be entering our 11th year as premier partner to the awards.

“The nominations this year again highlight just how many talented people are working in the media from Britain’s Asian communities and we want that number to continue to grow. We also want to help ensure that the media fully represents the diversity, talent and creativity of the UK population.”

AMA panel member Sanjay Shabi said: “Ever since its launch in 2013, EssenceMediacom (formerly MediaCom) has long supported the pivotal role these esteemed awards play in celebrating the rich diversity of the UK’s media landscape.

“The awards shine a spotlight on the exceptional talent within the South Asian media community, from journalists and content creators to broadcasters and producers, invaluably reflecting the multicultural tapestry of Britain’s modern media marketplace.”

Five special awards will also highlight the work of actors, journalists, writers and broadcasters who have helped to define the media landscape with their outstanding work.
