Multimedia Journalist
Ruby Zaman is the host and producer of an independent podcast series, Story By Story – aiming to connect people through their stories.
Ruby is an experienced journalist and has previously worked for Al Jazeera Media Network’s multi-award-winning news and current affairs podcast, The Take. Following this she produced and reported for the BBC World Service flagship business show, World Business Report and the discussion show Business Matters. Ruby has also produced audio content for The Wall Street Journal’s flagship morning podcast, What’s News AM.
Her podcast experience goes beyond news and business. At the start of 2023, she was personally hired by high-profile public figure, AI and happiness expert Mo Gawdat, to produce his top-rated mental health podcast Slo Mo.
In her 10 months in this role, she contributed to the biggest growth period since the podcast launched – the number of subscribers more than doubled and she produced the episode with the highest number of views on YouTube. Guests included Dr Deepak Chopra, Mona Kattan, Shivani Pau and Elizabeth Day.
Ruby cut her teeth in journalism in 2006 as part of the launch team for Al Jazeera English in Doha, in one of the most diverse newsrooms in the world, and under the guidance of talented world-class journalists. During her time there she represented the channel publically attending international conferences and has contributed to award-winning coverage.
Ruby has a profound interest in human stories, those that give a voice to marginalised communities around the world and ultimately have a positive impact on humanity.
Her work has earned her industry recognition. She was invited to share her journalism experience as a guest speaker for events held by SOAS and EY.
Alongside her involvement in the Asian Media Awards, Ruby has previously been on the judging panel for the British Podcast Awards and more recently, the International Women’s Podcast Awards.
