Nominations Open for the 2017 AMA’s

The nomination process for the 2017 Asian Media Awards is now open.

This year’s Asian Media Awards return to the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Wednesday October 25 2017.

The official shortlist announcement will take place at ITV, The London Studios on Thursday September 21 2017.

The closing date for all entries is 5pm August 24th 2017.

The visually impaired girls Demonstrate the various Self Defence techniques to fend off an attack form a Molestor at an event Organised in New Delhi.

Janki Gond, 2 years consecutive medal achiever hails from a small village called Kurre of Sihora block, Jabalpur district. She won silver medal in 2016 and gold medal in 2017 at National Blind and Deaf Judo Championships.  
She has interest in agriculture and cattle rearing. She looks forward to set up her business and sports to pursue her career.  

She says - “I am not less than anyone.”

Women and girls with disabilities are at a much higher risk of violence and abuse than their peers. Recently in the news there have been cases of young visually impaired girls being raped and sexually abused in India. 
As part of empowering and developing the skills of young visually impaired girls, Sightsavers is piloting an adolescent health programme to enable them to respond to real life situations in positive and responsive ways. As part of this Sightsavers is training visually impaired girls in self-defence. Many of the girls, who come from economically underprivileged backgrounds, have gone on to win medals in the National Blind and Deaf Judo Championships and a few want to go on to teach other girls with disabilities in the arts of self-defence.
